Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

CPCCWP5006 - Survey waterproofing systems

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare.

  1. Determine scope of survey in consultation with stakeholders, reports and project brief, building works or structural specifications.
  2. Gather and review design specifications and data sheets, manufacturers’ information, drawings and waterproofing contractors’ scopes of work.
  3. Assess site environmental conditions according to approved plans, including surface and sub-surface drainage.
  4. Confirm design complies with National Construction Code (NCC) performance requirements and Australian Standards.
  5. Determine tools, equipment and relevant technologies required for the survey according to site conditions.
  6. Develop the scope for the survey, including installation stages and compliance review.

Carry out survey.

  1. Establish stage inspection protocols and benchmarks for compliance with design and manufacturers’ specifications.
  2. Communicate survey procedures and timeframe in consultation with stakeholders.
  3. Conduct quality assurance inspections of the waterproofing systems, including substrate assessment for suitability, component installation and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  4. Identify latent conditions outside of the waterproofing system design.
  5. Determine if installation complies with design requirements and manufacturers’ specifications.
  6. Record observations of survey of waterproofing systems for analysis.
